Asbestos was found in Claire’s make-up sets for kids.

Claire’s pulled nine products from the market because they found asbestos contamination.

As a CNN affiliate, WJAR-TV reported that Kristie Warner, a mother from Barrington, Rhode Island sent a sample of the make-up kit she bought for her little daughter at Claire’s to an independent lab in North Carolina after failing to check the ingredients present in the kit.

When the lab gave her the results she “physically sank” as they found asbestos tremolite in every single product of the kit.

She told the station: “I ended up sitting on the ground, just trying to wrap my head around how something like that could end up in our home.”

Asbestos is a highly toxic cancer-causing mineral that if it is swallowed or inhaled it can lead to lung damage and cancer and is linked to mesothelioma which is an aggressive and deadly form of cancer.

As reported by the CNN, Sean Fitzgerald of the Scientific Analytical Institute, which specializes in testing for toxic substances, said: “There were high levels of asbestos in the first color of eye shadow, so I tested three other colors and found it again,”

Also the lab tested seventeen different products from nine different cities, and they found asbestos in 24 talc-based makeup items from those 17 kits, one of them bought several years ago.

Claire’s Stores Inc. has now pulled from the market nine kid’s make-up sets in what they say is a “precautionary measure”.

The contaminated items include: Ultimate Mega Make Up Set, Metallic Hot Pink Glitter 48 Piece Makeup Set, Pink Glitter Cell phone Makeup Compact, Bedazzled Rainbow Heart Makeup Set, Rainbow Bedazzled Star Make Up Set, Rainbow Glitter Heart Shaped Makeup Set, Mint Glitter Make Up Set, Rainbow Bedazzled Rectangle Make Up Set and Pink Glitter Palette with Eyeshadow & Lip Gloss.

Claire’s said in a Tweet that they are immediately going to conduct their own investigations on the alleged issues and they will take the necessary actions once they have more information.
