Catalan parliament just declared independence from Spain on Friday morning October 27 but within short distance the Spanish senate approved direct rule of Catalonia by Madrid.

Earlier this month on the first of October , the referendum took place in Catalonia, region in Spain whether or not they should leave Spain.

It turned out that of the 43% of voters 92% of them voted to leave.

Before the referendum The Catalan lawmakers were warned they could face prosecution for sedition, or even rebellion, if they voted to declare independence.

During the referendum, police forces tried to stop people from voting. Officers were seen using violence against the people, beating them as they were going to vote.

The violence was filmed and reported by many news agencies.

The Catalan vice-president, Oriol Junqueras, said that his party is “going to work toward building a republic” as “democratic mandate” they gained with the referendum referendum results.

The Spanish government declared the vote null and was expected to the article 155, imposing to direct rule from Spain on Catalonia, this week; it did today.

In particular the article 155 enables Spain to fire Catalan leaders and rule the region, taking control of their police force, finance and public media.
