Belgium played Denmark in their second game of the UEFA 2020 Euros in Copenhagen.

With the memory of what happened still fresh in their minds, Denmark began the game on the front foot with Yussuf Poulsen taking the Belgium team by surprise with a goal within two minutes.

Before the game, both teams agreed that on the 10th minute, the game will be paused for a round of applause for Christian Eriksen.

Denmark came close to double their lead in the 13th minute after Mikkel Damsgaard could not direct the ball towards the goal after receiving a cross by Poulsen in a dangerous position.

The 20-year-old Damsgaard impressed the Danish fans after doing a couple of step-overs and bending a shot just wide around the post on the 34th minute.

The first half ended with Denmark being energetic and taking the game to Belgium, which probably surprised Roberto Martinez. Kevin de Bruyne subbed on at half time.

Second Half

As a result of the substitution, de Bruyne assisted Thorgan Hazard for the equaliser after Romelu Lukaku ran down the flank and found the Man City midfielder, who with composure passed it to Hazard to slot the ball into an empty net on the 54th minute.

Denmark believed they got a penalty but Damsgaard was shown a yellow card on the 69th minute for diving. A minute later, de Bruyne gave Belgium the lead after a quick succession of passing allowed Eden Hazard to find him. His first time shot beat the goalkeeper near post.

Denmark came close to equalise after Andreas Cornelius chested the ball down for Martin Braithwaite to take a shot but it was comfortably saved by Thibaut Courtois.

The Danes believed they could get something from this game but Braithwaite’s header hit the topside of the cross bar with minutes left until the end of the game.

The game ended with Belgium winning their first two games and qualifying for the knockout phase while Denmark’s qualification is in real trouble.
