The final game of matchday 1. All the African teams have lost so far but there is a lot of potential for this Senegal squad.
Liverpool star Sadio Mane played in the number 10 role for Senegal while Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski played up front for Poland as usual.
Yellow card to Grzegorv Krychowiak after cynically stopping Senegal’s counter-attack in the 12th minute.
18th minute a poor finish by M’Baye Niang after a beautifully weighted pass by Youssouf Sabaly.
GOAL – Thiago Cionek (OG) – 37th minute – Poland 0-1 Senegal
Idrissa Gueye’s shot was deflected by Cionek after he went to ground in an attempt to block the ball but it went behind the line.
In the first half the game did not live up to expectations, but a lucky deflection gave Senegal the lead.
Sane received a yellow card after stopping Lewandowski’s run towards the goal within the first 5 minutes of second half.
Lewandowski went up and down the wall but not enough power from the freekick which was met with a comfortable save by the Senegalese goal keeper on the 50th minute.
GOAL – Mbaye Niang – 61st minute – Poland 0-2 Senegal
The biggest mistake of the World Cup so far when Grzegorz Krychowiak pass-back to the goal keeper was intercepted by Niang and went over the Polish goal keeper Wojciech Szczesny who came out of his box but failed to stop the attack leaving the goal empty.
81st minute Mane was in front of goal but Szczesny came off the line to stop the ball.
Penalty appeal when Maciej Rybus slide into Ismaila Sarr inside the box but the referee dismiss the appeal on the 84th minute.
GOAL – Grzegorz Krychowiak – 85th minute – Poland 1-2 Senegal
After a brilliant delivery by Kamil Grosicki into the box from a freekick was met with Grzegorz Kryshowiak header.
Full-Time Poland 1-2 Senegal
After a poor game by Poland, Senegal managed to win their first World Cup match since 2002 and become the first African team to win a game in this tournament.
