Spain played Sweden in their first game of the Euro 2020 tournament in Seville, Spain.

The first meaningful chance Spain had was with a header by Dani Olmo but it was comfortably saved by the Swedish goalkeeper.

Koke, who has never scored an international goal for Spain, came close with a good run into the box to meet a cross but the subsequent shot went far above the bar.

However, it was the former Chelsea player, Álvaro Morata who almost gave Spain the lead after a mistake by the Swedish defence allowed him to come in front of Robin Olsen, but the shot went wide in the 38th minute.

The first half was dominated by Spain who had most of the possession, but it was Sweden who almost stole the lead in the last couple of minutes.

A ball above the Spanish defence allowed Alexander Isak to beautifully control it and to shoot past the Spanish goalkeeper, however, it was saved off the line by Marcos Llorente. The ball then hit the post which led to Unai Simón catching it.

The first half ended with Spain having the large share of the ball but it was Sweden who had the closest chance.

The second half resumed with Spain playing as they did in the first half but not troubling the Swedish goalkeeper.

On the hour mark, Swedish starlet Isak was surrounded by three players but manage to pass the ball across the box to Marcus Berg who horrendously missed the chance to give Sweden the precious goal.

Sweden’s defence played incredible with their low block and preventing Spain’s shots from troubling their goalkeeper.

The last five minutes of the game plus extra time led to a scurry of chances by Spain with Pablo Sarabia’s cross meeting Gerard Moreno’s head but it was not enough to go into the net.

Another cross by Jordi Alba almost led to Sarabia scoring but it was saved Olsen with his leg.

The game ended with Spain’s first goalless draw in the group stages since 1980.
