Terrorism in New York, again.2 min read

At least 8 people died last Tuesday in New York, during what was recognised by the authorities as a terror attack.

Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbekistan native who was living in New Jersey, is the author of such violence.

He admitted to be inspired by the propaganda of ISIS.

Saipov moved to the USA in 2010, he became a legal resident after winning a lottery programme that gives green card to lucky people.

He was not well educated and could not speak good English.

He became radicalised online and started being violent, as a US-based Uzbek religious activist Mirrakhmat Muminov, told the BBC.

He also said that he did not have any knowledge of the Koran.

As reported by the CNN, according to the New York Police Department Saipov rented a truck in New Jersey, at around 2:06 pm, which then used to commit the mass murder.

At 3:04 p.m. the suspect drove the truck onto bike path-walkway, where he kept hitting pedestrians and cyclists, he also hit a yellow school bus.

After hitting people with his truck, Saipov got off the vehicle holding some guns and started shouting “Allahu Akbar”.

Soon after a police man who was assigned to the scene arrived and shot him.

The Terrorist was then taken into custody and he underwent a surgery.

The American president Donald Trump claimed in a tweet on Thursday that Saipov was happy for what he did and asked to hang an ISIS flag in his hospital room.

Trump also said that the terrorist should get death penalty.

Among the victims of this vile terror attack there are a 23 year old software developer who had recently started working, a 32 year old a project manager for Moody’s Analytics, a 31 year old Belgian mother who was on a trip in New York and a group of 5 friends from Argentina.

Saipov told the investigators that he was inspired from the ISIS propaganda videos and had planned the attack for at least a year.

He also said that he used a truck to create the maximum damage and that he chose Halloween day because he knew there were going to be more civilians on the streets to kill.

While Donald Trump accused Sen. Chuck Schumer of not being tough enough on immigration, the New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio said that we should not put the blame on any group of people or create stereotypes.

Saipov has been charged with federal terrorism offences.
