England played with 3 defenders with wingbacks on both sides.

2nd minute Dele Alli took the ball off the defender and Jesse Lingard pounced on it which was saved.

Raheem Sterling saved himself from embarrassment after missing an easy chance which was ruled offside in the 4th minute.

Positive play from England in the first 5 minutes.

GOAL – Harry Kane – 10th minute – Tunisia 0-1 England 

Ashley Young delivered a corner which was met with a header by John Stones but was saved. Young England captain Harry Kane slotted in the rebound.

The goal keeper was subbed off after Mouez Hassen went down due to an earlier injury to his shoulder.  

A dangerous cross by Tripper was met with no one but Jordan Henderson’s shot forced the sub-on goal keeper to save it in the 17th minute.

23rd minute Ashley Young crossed the ball to Lingard who was free at the back post but missed.

26th minute Harry Maguire was dispossessed which led to Ferjani Sassi shot on goal deflected for a Tunisian corner but was cleared by Maguire.

Handball by Tunisia allowed Tripper’s free-kick to be delivered to Maguire but it was easily caught by the keeper on the half-hour mark.

Penalty given to Tunisia after Kyle Walker holds Ben Youssef and given a yellow card on the 33rd minute.

GOAL – Ferjani Sassi – 35th minute – Tunisia 1-1 England

Jordan Pickford went the right way, but the penalty was well taken by Sassi.

A scuffle inside the box  was saved from the Tunisian goal line on the 38th minute.

Lingard’s volley was blocked after a free kick taken by Tripper on the 42nd minute.

44th minute Lingard’s shot went past the keeper but hit outside the post.

Halftime Tunisia 1-1 England

England had the better chances, but finishing was terrible while Tunisia grew in confidence after the penalty.

Second half

English physicians gave the green light for Alli to play on after having some troubles.

Tunisia came out more confident with more possession in the first 5 minutes of the second half.

Raheem Sterling stole the ball from Tunisia and led a charge but a heavy pass back to the keeper forced a corner against Tunisia.

The corner is met with an Alli header but easily caught by the keeper.  

Harry Kane once again had been wrestled down in the box during the corner kick on the 51st minute but the referee dismissed it.

We have seen softer penalties given in this tournament, but no VAR was used.

20 minutes into the second half and England was slowly adjusting themselves back into the game and Alli was not as involved as the first half.

England had free kick after Yassine Meriah fouled Kane from a striking distance for Tripper but it was off target.

Raheem Sterling was subbed off for Marcus Rashford on the 68th minute

Naim Sliti shot with freedom outside the box on the 71st minute but went wide.

A freekick was given just outside the box for England on the 77th minute and Young wasted the opportunity.

GOAL – Harry Kane – 90th minute – Tunisia 1-2 England 

A simple header by Kane at the back post after a header driven by Maguire from a corner.

Full time – Tunisia 1-2 England

After a tough second half, England managed to snatch all 3 points in extra time with Harry Kane stepping up again.
