First Half

Uruguay took on Saudi Arabia at the Rostov Arena as Group A had their second game in Match day 2 of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Both teams came to the tournament in pretty concerning form with Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani yet to get a goal for the South American side.

Saudi Arabia on the other hand are possibly the worst team in the tournament having been battered by Russia 5-0 in their debut game.

The first 20 minutes of the game saw the Saudis attempt to attack closing in to the opposition goal.

However, Uruguay proved to be the dominant force on the field making pacey runs up front.

GOAL – Luis Suarez – 23rd Minute – Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

After missing out on a countless amount of chances against Egypt in his first fixture, Luis Suarez finally gets a goal in his 100th appearance for Uruguay.

From a corner, a ball went through the box with a lot of ruckus before coming to the Barcelona striker who slotted it home.

The goal was his 52nd at international level.

The remainder of the first half saw the Saudis continue attempting to break on the ball as they showed great momentum coming forward.

The last two games with the Falcons have proven that chance conversion isn’t their strongest suit.

But they still tried to charge on the ball trying to find a weakness in the Uruguayan defence.

The half ended 1-0.

Second Half

The remainder of the game saw somewhat of the same performance as the first half.

A lot of frustration was going through the crowd as well as those on the pitch as neither side was able to convert any of their chances.

In the latter part of the game, Uruguay were searching for their second goal as Cavani came close to converting a solid chance.

Four added minutes wasn’t enough for Saudi Arabia to equalise, as Uruguay go through to the knock out stages of the World Cup.
