Was the US Air Strike on Syria Justified?

Just this morning the US government announced an air strike on Syria, after the recent news of the chemical warfare usage killing many innocent Syrians. Now, President Trump is both backed and facing backlash for his approval and planning of this military action. Several news mediums have quoted other world leaders standing behind Trump, including Germany’s Angela Merkel, Canada’s Justin Trudeau, and the UK’s secretary of defence Michael Fallon. Arizona Senator John McCain said that American citizens will “probably” be in support of this action.
Yes, because opinions of thousands of Americans on twitter and other social media angered by the rash actions of their government means that everything is okay. One Twitter user, @ReadingBennie, responded to the news with “It shouldn’t have happened. If we wanted to do something to help the victims of the gas attack a few days ago the answer isn’t bombing them. It’s allowing Syrian refugees into our country.” Hawaiian Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard called out the administration for acting recklessly and not waiting for better results from testing the chemical attack earlier in the week.
So yeah, American citizens are “probably” okay.
I know it is ignorant to rely on the age old saying of “Two wrongs, don’t make a right”, however I wholeheartedly believe it applies in this situation. As an American abroad, the experiences I have had opened my eyes to the world around me. Rather than being trapped under nationalistic thought of patriotism, my time abroad has affected me to be conscious of those around me. Meeting people of varying cultural backgrounds has grown my thought, teaching me to be aware and cognizant of what is happening in the world.
The current state of our world is a shamble of violence, hatred, and stubborn opinion. What the US has done will not rectify the circumstances occurring in Syria, rather I believe that the air-strike will cause more issues and do more harm. I am in support of my fellow Americans and others around the world. Instead of destroying another country, the US should be opening doors to the refugees in Syria and providing support to the innocent victims affected by war.
I am angry, sad, and upset with the actions my country has taken and in turn will work to encourage a better future for all peoples of the world.
