A 14- year- old teenager has been found dead in Wolverhampton’s West Park, on Thursday.

Viktorija Sokolova’s body was found in a park in Wolverhampton by a member of the public.

After a check up it was discovered that the 14 year-old Lithuanian girl, had been raped and had suffered a blunt force trauma to the head.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named, has been charged for the murder, and after hearing in the Magistrate’s Court, he was sent to a secure youth detention centre.

The park where the girl was found, had been closed for a few days, due to comprehensive forensic examination.

The body was found a day after she was reported missing, by family members. As of this fact, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), referred to the case as “normal procedure”, as the girl had been reported missing.

Detective Chef Inspector Edward Foster said, a number of people had come with information, however, officers continued to appeal for witnesses.

Harvi Khatkar said for the Express, that extra patrols will take place in the area and encourages anyone with concerns to speak to a member of their local police office.

Public members living close to the park are “shocked” that something like that happened in the usually quiet and friendly area. One of the neighbours said he had never heard something like that to happen in the past 30 years he’s living there.

Family members describe Viktorija as a “little angel.” They also said, that she made their lives “colourful and full of meaning.”

“We can’t believe she has left us at such a young age. We will never forget you. You’ll be living in our hearts, soul and mind forever.”

A second teenager, 17, was also arrested, under the suspicion of taking part in the murder. He has been bailed, pending further investigation.

A wave of panic hit the members of the public, but the West Midlands police stated, they are investigating the case with a “very dedicated team of detectives.”
