The fourth South African President Jacob Zuma has been at the centre of controversy since he was elected back in May 2009.

Many have accused him of contributing to the corruption that plagues the country today, with the African National Congress holding meetings in recent weeks to decide the fate of the 75-year-old in office.

Since December it has been known that Zuma’s deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa, will assume position as the presidential successor once Jacob leaves office.

The ANC’s Secretary General Ace Magashule told the press that the party has decided to replace Zuma as it’s leader but hasn’t decided yet on a date to which he will step down as President.

After a 13-hour meeting in the early moments of Tuesday, Zuma agreed to step down as President only if he got to remain in office for the next six months, delaying a possible Ramaphosa-led administration.

With Zuma now recalled to office, the ANC has the chance to either impeach the 75-year-old or await approval for the motion of no confidence in parliament by its lawmakers.

Zuma has be accused in the past not only for corruption, but for Racketeering and a sexual assault charge that was acquitted in 2005.

Many are looking eagerly both in the general public and South African Parliament for Zuma to step down in order for the country to recover from all the unjust decisions made in the last decade.
